Is it safe to leave an external hard drive is enclosed in an aluminum case without a fan?

I have a laptop is rather a desktop replacement. More storage, I decided to buy an internal hard drive and use a box aluminum outer. However, after being warned by a friend that may damage the hard disk, I searched everywhere online to see if it really badly on the hard disk. All results are contradictory and wondered if it was a good idea to leave all the time that the backup files on a regular basis with this hard drive. So the question is: Is it safe to leave around time? If not, should I get another external enclosure? What?

In the meantime, if your company is only 1 external hard drive it should go, those who have more than 1 should be concerned to have a fan. Because only 1 hard drive to move heat aluminum casing to maintain an appropriate temperature. But with more than 1 hard disk, a floppy disk drive can bring warmth to the other verse and vice, they require a fan to keep them to a safe temperature.
